A colourful group of women on their way to sing together on Ilha de Mozambique - a small Portuguese colonial island off Northern Mozambique.
Prior to 1898 it was the capital of colonial Portuguese East Africa. With its rich history and sandy beaches, the Island of Mozambique is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Mozambique's fastest growing tourist destinations.

Shot late morning in city centre Kampala Uganda (one of my favourite places in the world)
The buzz of this city is incredible. Kampala is Uganda's national and commercial capital bordering Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake. The sights, colour and especially the music is fantastic here.

Rowing out to catch the weekly steam boat 'The MV IIala', I shot this at dawn having stayed up all night waiting for it's arrival - it had been due the previous day.
The remote island I had been staying on was Chizumulu in lake Malawi which lies just a few kilometres from Mozambique and although entirely surrounded by Mozambican territorial waters, is an exclave of Malawi. With limited electricity, no roads and only a weekly ferry service to the mainland, 'Chizi' as it's known, has a real sense of getting 'off the beaten track'.

Shot at sunrise along the train tracks in very rural northern Mozambique.
This train connects Cuamba near the Malawi border to Nampula an important town in northern Mozambique. It slowly moves through the country and at every station there is always the same scene; within a few minutes of stopping a quick market takes place with people selling every sort of goods from vegetables, fruit and fish to wood, chickens and sweets.

Shot early morning at Kampala bus station, Uganda - hundreds of Mutatus (privately owned minibus) line up to collect their passengers.
What seems at first to be absolute chaos and disorder and amongst a cacophony of noise and diesel fumes - the matatu drivers have a system that allows everyone to get the right bus out of town. Overwhelming to navigate at first, once you get the hang of it - it's an exciting start to your day.
